PSC Blog #6 – Resume Evaluations

Dear Church,

It has been awhile since our last update as we have been patiently waiting for the job announcement to close. In our last Blog, we indicated that the job announcement for our Senior Pastor position had been posted and would close on the 9th of September. That announcement has now closed and we received forty resumes in response. The PSC has began prayerfully going through the process of evaluating those resumes with a target to have our top ten candidates identified by the 7th of October. At that time, notifications will be made to both those still being considered and those no longer being considered. It is both exciting and humbling to finally be at the point in the process where we are looking at resumes, reading letters of recommendation and watching sermons on video (technology can be a wonderful tool). Exciting because we very much look forward to God revealing to us who He has selected to be our next pastor…humbling because we know that in and of ourselves we’re incapable of ensuring that divine appointment is kept. However, there is also a sense of confidence…not in ourselves; rather, confidence that stems from knowing that the God we serve is sovereign, fully in control, and that the Holy Spirit that dwells within will continue to guide us throughout this process. We have been encouraged by the number of pastoral candidates, as well as churches, that indicated they are joining with us in prayer during this time of seeking. We ask that you continue to pray for us as well. It is our sincere desire that we will be, individually and collectively, in tune with the Holy Spirit and His leading throughout this process.

As we met this past Sunday, we had the opportunity to discuss our initial evaluations and thoughts with respect to the candidates. We will meet again this Sunday to further discuss as we continually narrow down that list of candidates. It has been truly amazing to see how the team has come together and made significant progress. As the task that lays before us gains clarity, we ask once again for your prayers and have included a list of items you can join with us in praying about:

  • Pray for the man God has already identified as our next pastor. For his family (if he has one) and the church family that he will be leaving.
  • Pray for the PSC (individually and collectively) as we earnestly seek God’s wisdom and discernment.
  • Pray for unity within the PSC and within the Church.
  • Pray that our church will be ready to receive God’s man.

We appreciate your encouragement and support as we methodically move through this process. It is truly exciting to see how God is moving within First Baptist Burkburnett and we stand in eager expectation of what He will do next!

In Him,
